Happy New Year!

Updated: Jan 11

Thank you for checking out my first ever blog post. Keep reading to find out more about me and my business and what I've got planned for 2021...

I’m Gemma, the maker behind ‘Moore Crate Occasions’. Originally from East Yorkshire, I now live in Brentwood, Essex with my Husband, Stephen and my 1 year old daughter, Lexi. During naptimes and Daddy and Lexi play time, I head to my workshop and paint personalised crates for all sorts of occasions…

Seasonal crates…

Crates for Birthdays…

Weddings…

Anniversaries, New Home, Pets…

Loads for Children and Babies

and if you can’t find what you’re looking for I take bespoke commissions too (these are my favourite to paint!)

Moore Crate Occasions is a very small (just me) and still a relatively new business, about this time last year I was 5 months into being a mum and 7 months away from finishing my maternity leave and to be honest I was dreading it. Not something I had expected...before Lexi I was a secondary PE teacher at a really lovely all girls grammar school, I'd been there since 2011 and was Head of Year 10 and 11…I loved it! Then in July 2019, Lexi came along and I guess I just loved spending all day, every day with her more! So I started to wrack my brain for something I could do that would give me more time at home with her... I have always loved crafting and art so started thinking about things I'd made as gifts that people had really liked and found useful…I settled on crates, I’d made a few for weddings (including my own). I decided I wanted to paint beautiful personalised crates that celebrated a person, event or milestone in a really special way but that could then go on to serve as a practical (and decorative) storage solution. I ran the idea past my family and friends (who thankfully liked it) and started painting up crates to photograph for the website and then I launched.

I am immensely grateful for the support I have had from family, friends and my customers, without whom Moore Crate Occasions would cease to exist. I am particularly thankful for my mum (who is fantastic at boosting my confidence) Amanda Cousins Photography (who took the beautiful photographs you see on my website), my husband (who turned my scribbles into a functioning website and provide endless support) and my husband’s family (who physically built my wonderful workshop).

So what have I got planned for 2021? Well, each month I plan celebrate one or two of my crates by featuring them here on my blog along with guest writer from a relevant small business owner…I am so excited by the line-up…you are going to love hearing from them! Each guest writer will tell you a bit more about themselves, their business and their products/services. Make sure you subscribe to my mailing list (sign up via my website www.moorecrateoccasions.co.uk) so you‘re the first to hear when a new blog goes live as well as keeping up to date with all my new products and promotions and collaborations. You’ll receive a 10% discount code when you sign up too :D

Other than that, I’ll be spending each day with my little best friend (Lexi) and hopefully painting up lots of new lovely crates and sharing photos of them with you over on my social media (links below). Make sure you’re following me and set up post notifications so you’re the first to see my new makes.

All my very best wishes for 2021! Come back to check out the first feature crate and guest blog writer soon.
